Last Warning Give Priority To Primary Health Care, Union Tells FG

The Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN) has advocated the need for the Federal government to properly equip, fund and staff the primary health care in Nigeria with professionals.
Former president of the union, Ayuba Wabba, and the present president of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), gave the advice in his valedictory address at the 9th National Delegates Conference of MHWUN in Abuja recently.

He also appealed to the federal and state governments to provide universal health coverage through the National Health Insurance (NHIS), which should be extended to rural communities in the country.

According to him, concerted efforts should be made through transparent and verifiable commitment by both federal and state governments to better fund and equip the health institutions as well as infrastructural renewal.

He said, "This is for us is the starting point in reversing the migration of Nigerian health workers away from the country to overseas to ply their professional trades."
